ѿappUniversity education majors work with immigrant children in Akron, Ohio, to increase their food literacy.

ѿappUniversity education major Klair Heestand said the time she spent teaching refugee students in Akron in the spring was excellent preparation for when she enters her own classroom one day. 

“It was very helpful, because we’re going to have students of varying abilities, and students for whom English is a second language, no matter where we teach,” Heestand said. “We don’t need anyone left behind because of a language barrier.”

Senate Bill 83, the Ohio Education Enhancement Act, is a far-reaching bill that includes a proposal for rules aimed at ending mandated diversity training.

Through a multi-year, comprehensive examination of current processes and student needs, including the work of the Re-Imagining of Academic Advising Group and the Supporting the Student Experience Review Team, it became evident that the university needed a system that better supported the evolving needs of its students across the student lifecycle.

Stress Free at The Library Spring 2023

Emily Maslanka was among 34 ѿappstudents who traveled to Kansas City in April 2023 to work the NFL draft through a partnership arranged by Mark Lyberger, associate professor in Kent State’s Sports Administration program in the School of Foundations, Leadership and Administration in the College of Education, Health and Human Services.

Students who join the ѿappArmy Reserve Officers’ Training Corp (ROTC) program do double time as they work to earn college degrees and graduate as Army officers. While the schedule may be grueling, for two ѿappgraduates, the program prepared them for any challenges they may face.

Knight Scholarship Winners

The John S. Knight Memorial Journalism Fund annually awards scholarships to outstanding university students studying journalism, communication and public relations. This year, eight of the 10 scholarship recipients were ѿappUniversity students.
