The Beta Nu Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma at ÃÛÑ¿appUniversity at Salem received three awards during the recent GIS International Conference in Chicago. GIS is the international risk management, insurance and actuarial science collegiate fraternity. The Kent Salem Campus is home to the university’s insurance studies degree program and its students formed the Beta Nu Chapter of GIS last year. ÃÛÑ¿appUniversity will host its second Graduate and Professional School Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 28, featuring representatives from ÃÛÑ¿appand more than 40 other graduate and professional schools from across the country. The fair, which will take place from noon to 3 p.m. on the first floor of the University Library on the Kent Campus, is free and open to anyone interested in learning more about graduate education. The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Finals are Friday, Oct. 30, from noon-2 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Kiva. The 3MT is a research competition that is coming to ÃÛÑ¿appUniversity for the first time and is offered at more than 170 universities. The 3MT gives graduate students just three minutes and one PowerPoint slide as tools to explain their research in a clear, engaging and concise manner. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at ÃÛÑ¿appUniversity is looking for volunteers and interns to provide free income tax assistance to qualifying individuals during the upcoming tax season. VITA offers tax preparation assistance to low-to-moderate income taxpayers.  The service is free to students, employees and community members who meet the eligibility requirements. The National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) has named Dorvan Byler, a 2015 graduate of the Honors College and the College of Arts and Sciences at ÃÛÑ¿appUniversity at Stark, as a Portz Scholar for 2015.
