Pay changes per the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

In April, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) issued a final rule to alter the overtime pay regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The rule increases the minimum salary threshold to $43,888 on July 1, 2024.

In order to be in compliance with the final rule, ÃÛÑ¿appUniversity will be implementing updates to assignments for employees who are earning less than $43,888, and are currently exempt from overtime. ÃÛÑ¿appwill use an effective date of June 23, 2024, to be in compliance by July 1, 2024.

Those employees who are currently exempt from overtime, and earning less than $43,888, will have the following changes:

  • Hours worked and leave time (sick and vacation) will be tracked in the university's timekeeping system.
  • Will become eligible for overtime (either in the form of overtime pay or in compensatory time off) of 1.5 times the hourly rate for all hours in excess of 40 hours in a workweek.
  • The payroll schedule will switch from semi-monthly to bi-weekly.

Employees who are affected by this change will continue to receive the same benefits and annualized accruals for sick and vacation leave.

Important Note: Because of the change in payroll schedules from semi-monthly to bi-weekly, employees are encouraged to consider how the change in payroll schedules might impact their schedule for paying bills.
