Ambassadors In Action

Take your first step to becoming an Everyday Ambassador by engaging in the two hour service event, Ambassadors in Action on Saturday, August 26, 2017. Join Community Engaged Learning during Welcome Weekend for various on-campus service projects designed to get you involved in the campus community from day one. Experience the rewards of serving; meet new friends, explore your new community, and give something back. Registration required.

2017 Projects

Service Projects Description Location
Big Red Bookshelf Construct and paint bookshelves to store children's books to benefit the United Way. Location: The room is in the basement, across from the elevator.
Campus Kitchen Weigh and sort recovered food, then prep and prepare meals for delivery to local social service agencies.
Campus Resource Recovery Team Increase recycling and reduce landfill waste on this recycling scavenger hunt. Please dress appropriately for the weather.
Card Writing for Various Children’s Organizations Create cards for children with Circle K, a Community Service and Volunteerism Organization with a focus on Service, Fellowship, and Leadership.
Child Development Center Clean Up Assisting with preparation for the academic year through landscaping, organizing, and power washing! Dress for working outside.
Duffle Bags for Foster Children Decorate duffle bags and fill them with gifts, notes, and necessities for children in the local foster care system. Sponsored by Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Summit County
Fleece Tie Blankets for Akron Children’s Hospital Making fleece tie blankets for Akron Children’s Hospital with Circle K, a Community Service and Volunteerism Organization with a focus on Service, Fellowship, and Leadership. Sponsored by JoAnn Fabrics.
Greenhouse at Cunningham Hall Participate in gardening activities, pruning, and other duties.
K9 Demonstration and Police Station Clean Up Assist with general clean up and observer a K9 Unit demonstration.
Knitting for Those in Need Learn a basic knitting technique using a loom to produce hats and/or scarves for people in the local community.
MightyPack Program  Fill backpacks with healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, and dairy items, along with nutritional education materials and kitchen supplies for students in local school districts.
Nutrition Garden Tend this community garden which provides fresh fruits and vegetables to local children.
Operation Gratitude, Letter Writing to Soldiers Join members of the ÃÛÑ¿appUniversity Veterans Club in creating letters, notes, and drawings of thanks for veterans served by our local organization Freedom House, an emergency shelter to those veterans in a housing crisis.
Rain Barrel Painting Paint rain barrels for water conservations
Toiletries Kits for the Homeless Assemble toiletry kits with toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and other essentials for a local non-profit that serves homeless populations.
United Church of Christ Clean Up Help with an outdoor/indoor clean-up and purging of storage rooms at a local church.
Women's Center Food Pantry Assist in organizing and sorting in the pantry.
