ѿappUniversity's Aeronautics and Engineering Expo Promises Fun for All Ages

ѿappUniversity will host the Aeronautics and Engineering Expo (A&E Expo) on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the ѿappUniversity Airport. This event offers a day of aviation excitement, hands-on STEM experiences, and family-friendly activities for all ages.

From grandparents to grandchildren, visitors will find something to spark their interest. The expo showcases a thrilling range of aircraft, bridging aviation history with cutting-edge technology. Aviation enthusiasts can explore vintage aircraft including the Douglas C-53 Skytrooper "Beach City Baby," Fairchild C-123K Provider "Thunderpig," classic Stearman biplanes, and the Beechcraft Staggerwing. Alongside these historical treasures, modern aircraft like the sleek Dassault Falcon 2000 jet, the innovative Subsonex JSX-2 jet, and Kent State's own fleet of training aircraft will be on display.

"Our A&E Expo is designed to ignite passion for aviation and STEM in visitors of all ages," said Christina Bloebaum, Ph.D., dean of the College of Aeronautics and Engineering at Kent State. “From aspiring engineers to veteran pilots reliving their first solo flight, there’s something here to inspire you.”

The event goes beyond static aircraft displays, offering a variety of interactive experiences. Families can explore the world of unmanned aerial vehicles at drone flying demonstrations. Engineering enthusiasts will be captivated by the robotics exhibitions, featuring everything from combat robots to cutting-edge robot dogs. These activities provide a glimpse into the future of aerospace and engineering.

The A&E Expo offers airplane rides from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., priced at $65 per person, $95 for two, or $125 for three, with children 5 and under flying free when accompanied by an adult. Flight simulators will be available for $20 per 15-minute session, allowing visitors to test their piloting skills safely on the ground.

Throughout the day, attendees can take tours of the state-of-the-art FedEx Aeronautics Academic Center, gaining insight into Kent State's renowned aviation program and envisioning the future of advanced air mobility. The MAPS Air Museum will also have exhibits on site, offering a deeper look into aviation history.

The event features a multi-ship flyover of T-34 aircraft and maneuvers by the Goodyear blimp piloted by ѿappalumni. The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Cleveland Clinic will also showcase their aircraft, demonstrating the diverse applications of aviation in public service.

The A&E Expo showcases Kent State’s dedication to training the next generation of aviation and engineering professionals. By engaging visitors of all ages, from aviation enthusiasts to families, this event strengthens community ties and inspires youth to pursue careers in aviation and STEM fields.

Admission for walk-up attendees is $5 per person, with a maximum of $20 per family. On-site parking is available for $20 per vehicle, cash only, which includes admission for all vehicle occupants.
